Are you looking to supplement your volunteer hours? Are you comfortable with children? We’re looking for high school students aged 14 to 17 for our “Reading Buddies at the Library” program. What is the “Reading Buddies at the Library” program? We match you with a child who needs encouragement to read, for weekly 30-minute sessions in the library after school and/or on Saturday mornings. During these sessions, your role is to work alongside the child in reading. You’ll help with pronunciation, word meaning and any other reading obstacles. You’ll help them overcome challenges and build their self-confidence. You’ll be assigned to a child aged 6 to 12. At the moment, we’re opening the program for the month of January, with the intention of continuing until the end of the school year.
