Novel Bunch

Project Description

English Book Club – Read outside the box

The Novel Bunch will work a little differently this year as we have chosen to base our monthly readings on themes rather than on one specific book. We hope this will entice our participants to choose a book that would be outside of their usual reading “box”!

The Rockland branch hosts Novel Bunch every 4th Wednesday of the month and discussions will begin at 6:30 pm.

The book club is open to all residents of Clarence-Rockland with a Library card. If you don’t currently have a card we will be more than happy to sign you up for one on your first visit.

4th Wednesday of the month

April 25th

They say April showers bring May flowers so let’s pick ourselves an appropriate bunch of books! Choose a book that has the name of a flower in the title. Explore the internet and if you find a book that isn’t in our collection, ask us if you can borrow it through inter-library loan. it will be our pleasure to find it for you!

May 23rd

“May” we suggest something different? We want you to really look for a book outside your zone and find a genre you may have never read before – Young Adult. The Library’s Young Adult section is fabulous and you will find a wide variety of stories to choose from. Anything from dystopia (Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins); to a new take on old fairy tales (Cinder by Marissa Meyer); to murder and suspense (We Were Liars by E. Lockhart). We think you’ll discover a whole new world!

June 27th

There is a famous saying that says you should never judge a book by its cover, but let’s be honest, most of us choose a book based on how the cover “speaks” to us. So here is June’s challenge, find a book who’s cover doesn’t speak to you at all! Dig through our shelves and find that one book whose cover is so unappealing you would normally put it back as quickly as possible but when you read the synopsis it speaks volumes to you.
